At least 4.8 million residents of Argentina and Uruguay have been displaced due to the severe electrical disaster. Some parts of Paraguay have also been affected.
The incident happened in the local time on Sunday, according to the Argentine state power plant. The exact reason for the disaster is yet to be known.
Local media said the disaster may have occurred due to disruption in the joint industrial grid during the supply of power from hydropower projects. The power-dependent work cycle has already stopped.
The concerned people are working to ensure supply. Meanwhile, the Argentine president said that 50 percent of the electricity was supplied to the customer. He has also pledged to investigate the incident.
Uruguay says electricity has been restored in the coastal region of the country.
